King 5’s Best Restaurant in Seattle to Cook at Prost Amerika Party

Top chef Ryan Donaldson of the Stone House Restaurant in Redmond is the latest big name addition to the Prost Amerika End of Season Party. Donaldson joins America’s Got Talent star Manuela Horn who will perform; and Fox Soccer Channel’s Jeremy St Louis, Sounders FC’s Peter Fewing and FIFA’s Sandra Hunt who will take part in a soccer Q&A.

The Stone House is no ordinary restaurant though. It was voted the Best New Restaurant in Seattle by King 5’s online voters, a poll in which over 190,000 people voted.

Donaldson will take the raw material kindly supplied by event sponsor Uli’s Sausages and has vowed to work some top chef magic for Sounders fans and our MLS guests from out of town. Recognising both the German roots of Prost Amerika and the roots of the men who have given us such a great year, Donaldson has promised us that German style ‘curry wurst’ will be on the menu. But Chef Donaldson also vowed to serve his specialty “Shrimp and Chipotle Cream Sauce” on the side, and on the off chance that wasn’t mouth watering enough, endouille sausages.

History of Redmond’s Famous Stone House Building

The Wiley House was built between 1914 and 1916 and is an exceptionally well-preserved and architecturally distinctive example of the Craftsman-Bungalow style in the city of Redmond. It was constructed by Orson Wiley, who with his wife, Emma, was one of Redmond’s early settlers. They operated an adjacent livery stable and the Eagle Bar Saloon.

Wiley collected the stones for the house from the surrounding countryside. The Wiley’s fanciful Craftsman home is the elaborate legacy of their involvement in the settlement and commercial development of Redmond.

As Redmond’s initial settlement period was drawing to an end, and it was maturing into an established community, the built environment increasingly reflected the area’s economic prosperity. The Craftsman style of architecture expressed a level of formal comfort which appealed to the growing American middle class, which the Wiley’s had successfully joined.

Their house remains as a rare and wonderful example of Craftsman architecture in Redmond, and a reminder of one of Redmond’s pioneer families. The Wiley House was designated a Redmond City Landmark in 2007, and now houses the best in Seattle cuisine.
