Inter Miami 2-0 Cruz Azul
MIAMI, FL–Lionel Messi got a goal and an assist as Inter Miami won the annual battle between last season’s champions in MLS and Liga MX over Cruz Azul. It is the fourth successive season in which Inter Miami has won a trophy all since Messi joined the Herons.
Miami took the lead in the 24th minute after Luis Suarez sent a cross in front of goal that was headed in by Messi for his 100th goal with the club in all competitions.Messi would have a second goal disallowed for offside, but he would assist on the insurance in the 81st minute as Casemiro headed in Messi’s corner.
It is also the first match and first win for new coach “Kily” Gonzalez who was appointed on August 27th.
Inter Miami return to league play on Sunday at home to San Diego FC. Kickoff is at 7pm ET on Apple TV.
