Gil’s three-goal contribution powers Revolution past Columbus, 3-1

Columbus opened the second half on the front foot, quickly looking to advance the ball and apply pressure in New England’s midfield.

Malte Amundsen had the first chance of the second half in the 48th minute when his right footed shot from outside the box was sent over the bar.

Less than a minute later, Peyton Miller had an effort of his own when his left footed shot from outside of the box was saved by goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.

Alhassan Yusuf continued New England’s pressure in the 55th minute when his effort from inside the box sailed over the bar.

New England thought they had extended their lead in the 59th minute when Mamadou Fofana tapped home an effort at the back post, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the 61st minute, Crew head coach Laurent Courtois made his first two changes of the match, replacing Josef Martínez and Tarun Karumanchi with Gonzalo Tapia and César Ruvalcaba.

Entering the 73rd minute, New England thought they had taken the lead when Carles Gil played a ball into the penalty area for Dor Turgeman, who chipped his finish into the back of the net. However, the goal was disallowed after Turgeman was ruled narrowly offside.

In the 77th minute, Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf was issued a yellow card for delaying a restart.

Less than two minutes later, in the 79th minute, New England added to their lead.

New England Revolution captain Carles Gil elected for a chipped effort that found the back of the net to give New England a 3-1 advantage.

Less than a minute later, Miller nearly added another, but his effort was denied by Patrick Schulte.

Dor Turgeman had another massive opportunity in the 86th minute, taking on two defenders before unleashing a close-range effort that forced Schulte into a save.

In the 87th minute, both teams turned to their benches. Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his first change of the match, replacing Turgeman with Wilson Harris, while Crew head coach Laurent Courtois replaced Eric Bailly and André Gomes with Dylan Chambost and Andrés Herrera.

Less than a minute later, Gonzalo Tapia had an opportunity for Columbus, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

In the 89th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his second change of the match, replacing Jack Harrison with Ilay Feingold.

Less than a minute later, Crew head coach Laurent Courtois made his final change of the match, replacing Brais Méndez with Lautaro Giaccone.

Wilson Harris had a massive chance to add to New England’s lead in the 90th minute when his effort was sent over the bar.
