Stars survive Racing fight back to win

Chicago Stars FC 3-2 Racing Louisville

EVANSTON, IL–Joy has been hard to find for Chicago Stars FC this season, not to mention goals. However on Sunday, a little joy was found as well as three goals and three points as the Stars ended their seven-match winless streak with a 3-2 win over Racing Louisville who see their four-match winning streak snapped.

Part of the scoring problem for the Stars had been its inability to have at least three of Jameese Joseph, Mallory Swanson, Julia Grosso, and Jordyn Huitema on the pitch at the same time–let alone on the same page. Huitema is of course out for the season, but the other three were on and all three would score in this one.

Joseph opened the scoring in the 34th minute finishing after Mallory Swanson made a run into the box taking on two defenders before laying the ball off to Joseph. Racing would equalize in the 49th minute after Taylor Flint headed in a cross from Lauren Milliet.

The Stars would regain the lead in the 62nd minute after Mallory Swanson after a pass from Michele Alozie deflected off a defender and right to Swanson’s feet. Racing pulled level again six minutes later after Makenna Morris scored as the Stars were unable to clear a ball inside their box.

The Stars would pull ahead for good in the 83rd minute after Julia Grosso beat Jordyn Bloomer far post.

The Stars next play on Saturday at Denver Summit. Kickoff is at 7:45pm CT on Ion.
