Brazil top Group C as Scotland are made to wait

Brazil cruised to a comfortable victory, sealing their place at the top of the group and progressing onto the knockout stage.

It was a 3-0 triumph for the five time World champions in Miami which leaves Scotland with a nervy wait to find out whether they have done enough to reach the Round of 32.

The Brazilians took the lead within eight minutes, 19 year old winger Rayan charged down Scott Mckenna who saw his pass intercepted and fall on a plate for Vinicius Junior, who rounded Angus Gunn to tap into an empty net.

It would appear as if Brazil would double their advantage,  when Vinicius nicked the ball away from Jack Hendry and slotted it into the corner. This time around however, VAR came to Scotland’s rescue, noticing a trip on the defender before scoring.

Scotland failed to trouble Brazil at all in the first-half, with Alisson living a pretty comfortable life in goal.

The Selecao did strike again, just before the break and it was that man again Vinicius Junior who drifted to the back post and nodded in Bruno Guimaraes’ whipped cross.

Straight after the restart, Vinicius was given a sniff of a hattrick when he was played in by Lucas Paqueta but was denied by Gunn’s trailing leg.

Guimaraes was the architect once again as he shrugged of challenges and slipped in Matheus Cunha, who finished well inside the right post.

Scotland pushed to improve their poor goal difference but any chance they had was denied by Alisson who was finally called into action.

Perhaps the biggest cheer of the day rang out around the stadium as Brazil’s legendary number 10 and all time top scorer Neymar took to the field for his nation for the first time since 2023.

Brazil head on to the Round of 32 whilst Scotland face an anxious wait to find out their fate at the 2026 World Cup.
