Three golden points for Paraguay

An early goal from Matias Galarza opened the score in the 2nd minute and despite going down to ten men, the Albiroja held on to defat Turkiye, 1-0, giving themselves a chance at second place while Turkiye is eliminated.

Still, the negative was the red card given to Miguel Almiron in the 45+3 minutes for covering his mouth, and the official didn’t hesitate to give him the red card. Almiron will miss Thursday’s match against Australia.

This is the sixth straight World Cup in which Paraguay would win a group stage match. They are looking to reach the knockout stages for the fourth time in their last five appearances.

Paraguay will face Australia in Santa Clara on Thursday for second place (6pm, FS1/NBC Universe) as the USA has already clinched Group D.
