Inter Miami added a new goalkeeper to their ranks this week with the signing of Canadian international Dayne St. Clair.
The twenty-eight-year-old 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year has been signed for the upcoming season with the option to extend for another year.
He has eighteen caps to his name and is competing for a starting place at the FIFA World Cup later this year.
After seven seasons at Minnesota United he was available as a free agent and Inter Miami decided to add to their goal keeping roster and provide further competition for the number one spot.
Miami have also signed defenders Sergio Reguilón and Facundo Mura while confirming the permanent signature of Rodrigo DePaul after his loan last season.
Luis Suarez has also extended his contract by another year, that will take his career close to his fortieth birthday. And while he may not be a regular starter anymore, he has proven himself to be a goal threat and an excellent option off the bench.
It’s been an interesting time between the sticks for the Herons. Drake Callender started last season as first choice but was sold to Charlotte mid-season, leaving the door open for veteran Oscar Ustari who became first choice and played the majority of games.
However he lost his place late in the season to on loan keeper Rocco Rios Novo who featured in the playoffs. The young Argentine keeper ended the clubs victorious campaign as the first-choice keeper playing in the MLS Cup win.
Rios Novo has since returned to his club Lanus in Argentina after his loan ended, but it is believed that his loan will be extended and he will return to Miami soon.
St. Clair is good capture for Miami and he’ll want to play matches ahead of the world cup, which gives coach Javier Mascherano options before the season opener on February 21st.
