Rhode Island FC transfers midfielder Maxi Rodriguez to Detroit City FC

PAWTUCKET, RI– Rhode Island FC have transferred midfielder Maxi Rodriguez to Detroit City FC for an undisclosed fee.

Maximiliano “Maxi” Rodriguez is a 30-year-old, 5’11 170lb midfielder from San Antonio, Texas.

At the club level, Rodriguez has played 239 career games (17,557 minutes) across the United States. Rodriguez began his career with San Antonio FC (2017-18). Following the end of his stint in San Antonio, Rodriguez joined USL League One side Richmond Kickers (2019). He then signed for NISA side Detroit City FC (2021-2024) and helped assist in their jump to the USL Championship. Prior to the start of the 2025 season, Rodriguez left Detroit and signed with Rhode Island FC (2025). He now returns to Detroit City FC (2026 – Present)

He was a member of the USL Championship First Team All-League in 2o24.

In total career numbers, the midfielder has contributed 47 career goals, 19 assists, along with 44 yellow cards and 1 red card.

On Friday, December 19th, Rhode Island FC had announced the official transfer of Maxi Rodriguez back to Detroit City FC for an undisclosed fee, pending league and federation approval.

In his one season with Rhode Island, Rodriguez contributed 7 goals, 4 assists, & 6 yellow cards in 38 games played (2,326 minutes). He was a valuable asset in assisting the club back to the USL Championship Eastern Conference Finals.

He now re-joins Detroit City FC, a club that he previously spent 3 seasons with prior to joining Rhode Island.
