Colorado Rapids 2-2 LAFC

COMMERCE CITY, CO–Colorado’s season came to an end on Saturday as they could only muster a 2-2 draw with LAFC. A win would’ve put them in the playoffs with Real Salt Lake drawing at St. Louis. As it is, the Rapids finish in 11th, though level on points with RSL and San Jose, the Rapids had fewer wins than Real and an inferior goal difference versus the Earthquakes.

LAFC took the lead in the 42nd minute as Son Heung-Min roofed one into the net after a feed from Denis Bouanga. As one former Spurs player scored, another former Spurs player gifted Colorado an equalizer. Hugo Lloris’s attempt to play the ball out of the back backfired as Paxton Aaronson blocked his pass and it went straight into the net.

In the 87th minute, Darren Yapi would head in a cross from Oliver Larraz to give the Rapids the lead and maybe a playoff spot as RSL were being held by St, Louis. However, two minutes later, a give-and-go between Andrew Moren and Jeremy Ebobisse resulted in the latter shooting off the post and the former scoring on the rebound.

Colorado could not find a winner, and as a result, the Rapids’ season came to an end. LAFC finished third in the West and will begin the playoffs in the First Round against sixth-seed Austin FC.
