Argentina thrash Puerto Rica in relocated friendly

Puerto Rico 0-6 Argentina

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL–Lionel Messi had two assists as Argentina strolled to a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico in an international friendly that was initially to have taken place at Soldier Field in Chicago on Monday, but moved to Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday due to the immigration crackdown taking place in Chicago–though officials in Chicago cited low ticket sales.

The result was a not-full Chase Stadium that saw Argentina cruise to victory. Messi set up Gonzalo Montiel’s strike in the 23rd minute and then Lautauro Martinez’s in the 84th for this second of the night. Alexis Mac Allister also netted brace and an own goal accounted for the scoring.

Among the ranks of Puerto Rico, 152 places behind Argentina in the FIFA Rankings, were college players including Villanova’s Sebastian Cutler and DePaul’s Noah Hernandez. Their best chance at scoring came in the eight minute as Leandro Antonetti nearly lobbed one over Emiliano Martinez who got back in time to make the save.
