Time is running short for Angel City in its quest to make the playoffs.

Again heading out on the road to face an opponent they are currently chasing for a playoff spot, Angel City managed to hang tough with Racing Louisville. However, one strike proved to be the difference in the match, and it came off the foot of Sarah Weber, as her goal in the second half was all Louisville needed to come away with the win at Lynn Family Stadium.

“It’s these kinds of results that are disappointing, but they continue to motivate us to lean into that growth and continue,” Angel City keeper Angelina Anderson said. “We have to get back to work, really trust in the process, and continue the way we’re going. We’re all on the same page with that in the locker room. We want to get there and we want to be better.”

The result leaves Angel City (6-10-6, 24 points) five points back of Louisville for the eighth and final playoff spot. Angel City is hoping an upcoming three-match homestand can improve its current positioning with a little over a month left in the season.

“It’s time to shift our focus, we still have four games left; that’s 12 points,” Angel City head coach Alex Straus said, also referring to the team’s season finale at Chicago. “There’s possibilities in all of those games. We have three home games, and we need BMO, we need our people. Nothing is over. We have not given up anything.”

The moment came for Racing Louisville in the 65th minute. Emma Sears pressured Sara Doorsun into a turnover on the right side just outside the penalty area, Sears took the ball inside the box, played a ball to Weber, and she one-timed a sliding right-footed shot just inside the six-yard box that got past Anderson at the far post to put Louisville ahead.

Angel City begins its homestand on Monday, October 6 against the Kansas City Current.
