Inter Miami 3-1 UNAM Pumas
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL–Despite not having Lionel Messi in the lineup, Inter Miami saw off UNAM Pumas, 3-1, and became one of two MLS teams on Wednesday along with Seattle Sounders to clinch a spot in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals. The loss eliminates Pumas.
It was Pumas who went ahead in the 34th minute. Former Vancouver Whitecap Perdo Vite sent a looping ball to Jorge Ruvalcaba who hit it on the volley and beat Rocco Rios Novo. That lead almost lasted until halftime. Luis Suarez found Rodrigo De Paul in the middle of the box and the latter got his first goal as a member of Inter Miami.
The Herons would get a penalty in the 56th minute as Jose Caicedo handled the ball in the area. Suarez would convert the spot kick and give the Herons the lead. Suarez would get his second assist of the night passing it off to Tadeo Allende in the 69th minute to make it 3-1.
Inter Miami now advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, August 19th. Before that, it’s a return to league play to take on Orlando City in a Florida Derby on Sunday. Kickoff at 8pm ET (Apple TV).
