Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 Sporting Kansas City

VANCOUVER, BC–The Vancouver Whitecaps keep on keeping on as they continue their chase for top spot in the Western Conference with a 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City. The win keeps the Whitecaps second in the Western Conference, just one point behind San Diego FC. Meanwhile, Sporting KC remain third from bottom in the West with the loss.

When you’re good, you get lucky. Such was the case in the 35th minute when Sebastian Berhalter’s cross deflected off a defender and right to JC Ngando who fed Jayden Nelson, who then sent a low cross to Emmanuel Sabbi for the opening score.

The Whitecaps dominated first half play and eventually added to their lead in the 43rd minute. Jayden Nelson’s cross found Berhalter whose header was saved by John Pulskamp, but Ngando was there to pounce on the rebound.

Sporting KC were clearly second best on the ground. The closest they got to goal was a rocket shot by Logan Ndenbe which was saved by Yohei Takaoka. The scoring was complete for Vancouver in the 87th minute when Mathias Laborda headed in a cross from Berhalter.

The Whitecaps next play in two weeks’ time traveling to San Jose (7:30pm PT, Apple TV) while Sporting KC also have next weekend off and will host San Diego on August 9th (7:30pm CT, Apple TV).
