USA Women 4-0 Republic of Ireland Women

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The NWSL is on break until August 1st as events like the Women’s Euros are on the horizon. For the US Women’s National Team, it was a chance to get back on the pitch and did so with a 4-0 win over Republic of Ireland.

Rose Lavelle, earning her first cap in over six months, set up the first goal in the 18th minute as Avery Patterson headed it in just past Courtney Brosnan to make it 1-0. Just before halftime, Sam Coffee came into the penalty area and then beat Brosnan far post to double the USA’s advantage.

Lavelle would get her goal in the 53rd minute after a feed from Ally Sentnor. Lavelle became the 19th player in USWNT history to score 25+ goals and 25+ assists for the national team.

The final goal was a work of art from Alyssa Thompson. After taking the ball at midfield, she got around Jessie Stapleton and then made a run toward the area where she would shoot and beat Brosnan far post to make 4-0 on 63 minutes.

As usual, it was all United States in this match outshooting Ireland 26-2 as the visitors would hardly test Claudia Dickey’s goal on the evening in Colorado. The two sides will meet again on Sunday in Cincinnati at TQL Stadium at 3pm ET (TNT/TruTV/Universo/Max/Peacock).
