Colorado Rapids 2-0 Los Angeles Galaxy

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The Rapids ended a three-match losing streak by defeating LA Galaxy, 2-0, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The win see the Rapids retain the ninth and final playoffs spot in the West while the Galaxy remain rooted to the bottom of Major League Soccer on just eight points after 18 matches.

The match was delayed two hours due to severe weather in the area. When the weather cleared, it was Colorado who would eventually have the clear advantage.

Both goals came in a five-minute span for the Rapids. The first in the 23rd minute as Djordje Mihailovic headed in a cross from Sam Vines to put the Rapids ahead. Calvin Harris–making his first start of the season–added the second goal five minutes later picking up a pass from Theo Ku-DiPietro. It could have been 4-0 Rapids, but goals either side of the two that counted were chalked off for offside.

Harris nearly had a second goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went off the post. The Galaxy did have their chances. Gabriel Pec had a couple shots–one just going over the bar and the second denied by Nico Hansen. Hansen would make five saves on the night.

The Rapids travel to New England to take on the Revolution Saturday at 5:30pm MT on Apple TV. The Galaxy will travel to Stanford Stadium to take on San Jose in the California Classico at 7:30pm PT.
