TUKWILA, WA–It’s been a minute since we had rugby on this site, but our man on the Sound, Yuriy Tsupruk was on hand to see the Seattle Seawolves’ preseason match against Seattle Rugby Club at the StarFire Sports Complex. The score (71-0 in favor of the Seawolves) mattered little as a large crowd was treated to rugby in the Pacific Northwest both from a professional and amateur standpoint.
“It was a good exercise for us, a lot to be satisfied with, but there are elements of the game we need to tidy up as well,” said Seawolves coach Allen Clarke. “We saw a little bit of frustration, but that’s what preseason games are for, and it sets us up nicely for the week ahead and preparing for San Diego. Now it begins!”
The Seawolves’ eighth season in Major League Rugby (MLR) begins next Sunday at San Diego Legion at Torero Stadium. Kickoff is at 2pm PT on ESPN+. This will be the first of 16-match schedule for the Seawolves who won MLR titles in their first two seasons of theirs and the league’s existence in 2018 and 2019. In recent times, they have lost two of the last three MLR Finals.
MLR recently reached a media rights deal with ESPN where all matches–regular season and playoff–will be streamed on ESPN+ and select matches on ESPN2.
