The Portland Timbers have made their first signing of the 2025 campaign by getting via free agency winger Ariel Lassiter as the Portland Timbers announced this past Monday.

The 30-year-old Costa Rican native is under contract through 2026 but with an option for 2027.

Lassiter is entering his ninth MLS season and joining his sixth MLS club, previously playing for the LA Galaxy (2015-18), Houston Dynamo FC (2020-21), Inter Miami CF (2022-23), CF Montreal (2023-24) and Chicago Fire (2024).

With the Costa Rican national team, Lassiter has scored two goals in 28 appearances, including playing two matches in the Copa America 2024. In his previous MLS performances, he recorded 12 goals and 15 assists across 149 regular season matches.

“We are excited to welcome Ariel Lassiter to the Portland Timbers,” general manager Ned Grabavoy said. “His experience in both MLS and at the international level will bring value to our group in providing us another solid option within our attack.”

In 2024 the Portland Timbers were tied for the fourth highest scoring offense with 65 goals. Very well with an attack led by Landon Donovan MLS MVP finalist Evander followed by Jonathan Rodriguez Felipe Mora and Santiago Moreno.

In their home opener on February 23, 2025, the Portland Timbers will face the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Caps previously eliminated the Timbers in their Wild Card match with a score of 5-0, setting the stage for a potential rematch.
