Colorado Rapids 0-1 Seattle Sounders FC

COMMERCE CITY, CO–Seattle’s terrific form continued as they clinched a top four spot in the Western Conference playoffs, while Colorado Rapids’ form continues in the other direction. The 1-0 loss for the Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was their fourth loss in five matches and drops them to sixth in the Western Conference table. The Sounders have now won five of their last six and can finish no worse than fourth.

The game’s only goal came in the 48th minute. Off a takeaway, Jordan Morris ran in on goal. His shot was saved by Zak Steffen, but Albert Rusnak was on hand to put in the rebound to give the Sounders the lead. It is his tenth goal of the season.

Not of lot of shots were on target for either side, both had fourteen shots, but the Rapids would have just three on target and the Sounders had two. The expected goals were more in Seattle’s favor–1.9 to 0.8.

The best the Rapids can do now is fifth place with one match to play and that is on Decision Day, Sunday, October 19th when they travel to Austin FC (7pm MT, Apple TV). Meanwhile, the Sounders can win the Cascadia Cup with a win over Portland Timbers at Lumen Field that same night (6pm PT, Apple TV).
