Charlotte FC returns to play against New York Red Bulls

After nearly a month off, Charlotte FC returns to MLS play with a match against New York Red Bulls.

The two teams have matched up once already this season, with New York Red Bulls winning 3-1 at home. Charlotte has beaten New York Red Bulls just once in the team’s history, while losing four and drawing two.

Both teams were eliminated in the group stage of Leagues Cup and have not played since July. Charlotte currently sits sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference while having the second fewest goals in MLS. New York Red Bulls are fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference, scoring 42 goals and allowing 31.

New York Red Bulls will be without Emil Forsberg for the match today. Forsberg has the second most goals on the team with six.

An interesting storyline for the match is Tim Ream’s return to MLS, playing for Charlotte against his former club.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, August 24 at Bank of America Stadium and streaming on Apple TV MLS Season Pass.
