During the Revolution’s 1-0 defeat versus NYCFC on May 25th, forward Tomás Chancalay went down with a right knee injury just 38 seconds into the match after attempting a slide tackle. He continued to play in the match and was replaced in the 11th minute by Esmir Bajraktarević. He has not appeared in a match since.
On Thursday, the team announced that Chancalay would undergo season-ending knee surgery to repair a partial tear of his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and would be added to the Season-Ending Injury List for the remainder of the 2024 season.
The Surgery is set to be performed by Dr. Scott Martin at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Chancalay has made 32 appearances (30 starts) for the New England Revolution since his arrival in 2023. He has tallied 12 goals and 1 assist during his Revolution career.
Head coach Caleb Porter mentioned that due to Chancalay’s injury, he will be placed on the season-ending list, which creates roster relief.
This is now the 3rd ACL Tear by a Revolution player at Gillette Stadium in the last 14 months.
Head Coach Caleb Porter confirmed that the club is currently looking at ways to address Chancalay’s absence.
The Secondary MLS Transfer Window opens on Thursday, July 18th and runs until Wednesday, August 14th.
