Just two teams this weekend emerged as winners this weekend. The top three sides were all held while the bottom side got an 89th minute winner to end a five-match losing streak. Also, no home side won this weekend. It remains tight at the top as a result with Gotham FC moving closer to joining the log jam. Here is the story of the weekend in the NWSL:

Kansas City Current 2-2 Chicago Red Stars:  The Current extended their regular season unbeaten streak to 15, but lost two points on a Sam Staab header in the 90th minute. Mallory Swanson opened the scoring in the sixth minute for the visitors against the run of play. The Current scored twice in seven minutes in the second half through Bia (51st minute) and Temwa Chawinga (58th).

Racing Louisville 0-2 Gotham FC:  Gotham FC won their fourth straight match, extended their unbeaten streak to eight, and earned their fifth clean sheet of the season. Yasmeen Ryan (21st minute) and Ella Stevens (53rd minute) scored for the visitors. Racing Louisville miss out on a chance to move to sixth place with the loss.

North Carolina Courage 0-0 Orlando Pride:  The Pride remain unbeaten as they and North Carolina played to a goalless draw at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The draw keeps the Pride level with Kansas City Current at the top of the table. Courage lose their 100% home record in the draw and missed out on a chance to go sixth in the table over next Sunday’s opponent–Chicago.

Washington Spirit 1-1 San Diego Wave:  A club record crowd 19,897 at Audi Field saw the Spirit share the spoils with San Diego Wave. Jaedyn Shaw put the Wave ahead in the 20th minute, but a goal by the Spirit’s Croix Bethune six minutes into second half stoppage time denied the Wave a first away victory in 2024 (0-3-3). The Spirit keep one point behind the Current and Pride who also drew at the weekend.

Houston Dash 0-0 Angel City FC:  Jane Campbell stopped a penalty kick in the 55th minute to preserve a goalless draw against Angel City. The save on Claire Emslie was one of 11 saves on the night for Campbell. Angel City are now winless in their last five.

Seattle Reign 0-0 Portland Thorns:  Check out Jeff Lageson’s story on the 40th match between these sides.

Bay FC 0-1 Utah Royals:  Bottom-side Utah were just the second team this weekend to get three points. Kate Del Fava headed in Ally Sentnor’s free kick in the 89th minute to give the Royals just their second win this season and snapping a five-match losing streak.
