Salford’s star half-back Brodie Croft, has committed his long-term future to the club. The Australian playmaker has penned a 7-year deal, earning himself a pretty penny in the meantime. He shared his thinking process behind putting pen to paper with Prost Rugby League, saying:
“I’ve provided some stability for my family, I have my wife and two kids to think about. This club has put a lot of belief in me and a contract like this gives me lots of confidence.
“I’m very fortunate to go to work everyday with this group, they’re a great bunch of guys to be around, but not just the players, the coaches and background staff make it a really good environment to be around.
“This deal is very exciting for me going forward, it could be something that becomes more common, giving players and families more stability.
“I’ll be honest, when I first heard about the contract I was thinking ‘you can’t be serious’. But the boss sat me down and took me through the benefits, and then once I had got my head around it and spoke to my family I felt it was the right thing to do.”
After failing to get a new deal in the NRL, Croft was snapped up by Salford at the start on 2022. He had a surreal start to life at the club last season, reigniting his career by taking his side to the play-offs whilst winning the Man of Steel award.
A new trend seems to be emerging at Salford, where players who are out of form when they join the club, find the spark that helps them improve and recover their quality. Croft added:
“I think the people at the club do really well with the recruitment. The staff who work here are just genuinely good people that are great to be around.
“You always hope for successful seasons, but I definitely didn’t see last year going as well as it did. It fills me with confidence knowing that I can still perform like that and have an impact on the team, I hadn’t for a while in my career so I got a lot of excitement out of last year.”
The Red Devils get their season underway in a week’s time against the newly promoted Leigh Leopards. Croft told Prost Rugby League that he ‘would be lying if he said that they were not aiming for silverware’.
