Hull FC host the Saints looking for a first win against the Champions in five years

St Helens will travel to East Yorkshire eager to make it back to back wins after a shocking result in Round 21, the champions were defeated 44-12, a result that shocked a few. The Champions defeated Castleford last Sunday 20-12, and will look for another two points against Hull.

Hull will be looking for a huge result against a Saints side they haven’t beaten for five years whilst Hodgson’s men will also be hoping to reach the Play-Offs but with only five games remaining, its going to be difficult for Hull who currently sit in eighth one point below sixth place Leeds.

The East Yorkshire side had a good result against relegation favourites Toulouse two weeks ago, however they suffered defeat in the dying stages of the game against Huddersfield, loosing 22-16.

Whilst the effort was certainly there, they also lost two key forwards in Jack Brown (Shoulder injury) and Kane Evans (Dislocated Knee). Brown’s injury was the worse of the two as it looks like he will miss the remainder of the season with the club awaiting scans on the injury.

Evans’ injury was an unusual one to say the least after he was sitting on the bench and he went to get up and his knee popped out of place. Kane should however be okay for this week whilst Ben McNamara has been named in the squad for Sunday as he looks to return after nearly 19 weeks out.

The Saints will be boosted by the return of Agnatius Paasi and Sione Mata’utia and they have also recalled Josh Simm coincidentally from Hull FC as well as expecting Will Hopoate to be back for Sunday. They will however be without Regan Grace (ACL) and Dan Hill (Shoulder Injury).

Player Watch:

Hull FC Number 1- Jake Connor: Admired by Hull fans and it’s clear to see why, his passes, kicking game, Jake has got the lot. A move to Fullback arose in 2020 under Andy Last, he played a handful of games there that year but Brett Hodgson clearly took a liking to it and handed him the Number 1 shirt and Connor has retained it ever since, excelling in that position.

The “Snake” as Hull fans refer to him, has registered above twenty assists in Super League alone. He is a crucial part to Brett Hodgson’s side and could help end the 5 year drought against St Helens.

St Helens Number 8- Alex Walmsley: Standing at 6ft 5 inches, the Dewsbury lad has had a stellar career at the Saints, and with this being his Testimonial year, he certainly will be hoping for four in a row. Alex made his debut for St Helens in 2013 against Hull and has gone on to be one of Englands best forwards.
