Chiefs ended their 2021/22 campaign with their worst finishing position since 2014, finishing seventh following a season filled with players absent for international matches as well as injuries.
However, with their eyes set on a comeback in the upcoming 2022/23 season, Rob Baxter has been busy making key signings in the off-season, with new addition Kata a strong acquisition for the squad.
Kata, a Tongan international player, has opted to leave Moana Pasifika in order to move to a spot in Chiefs’ attacking options on a one-year deal.
Speaking about the move on Chiefs’ website, the 27-year-old said:
“It’s a big move for me and my family. Coming in today, the boys have been very welcoming and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“I’ve watched a few games and I know it’s really physical here in the UK. I like that, it plays to my strengths. I don’t have a fancy step or anything like that, I just like to go through people and enjoy the contact.
“Apart from that, I don’t know too much more about what to expect.”
Exeter’s season gets underway on 10 September, with Kata’s time beginning with a trial by fire as they take on reigning champions Leicester Tigers.
