Morgan set to call time on his International cricket career

England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from international cricket.

Under Morgan, England won the 2019 World Cup and reached the top of both the One-day and Twenty 20 rankings.

The 35-year-old who first took charge of the T20 side back in 2012 and two years later was given the role in the one day side, has been struggling with form and fitness in recent times.

Morgan, is currently England’s leading run scorer in one day and T20 cricket with 6,957 runs in one day’s and 2,458 in T20’s.

His impressive tally of 225 ODI’s and 1125 T20’s is also an England record.

Morgan took over the reigns from  Alastair Cook as ODI captain and oversaw England’s miserable 2015 World Cup campaign where they were knocked out in the group stages of the competition.

However, despite this disappointment, Morgan went a long way to implementing a brand new attacking approach which has helped England break the record for the highest one day total on three occasions.

Certainly, Morgan’s form has been of some concern recently having made ducks in his two innings against the Netherlands, with him missing out on the third and final ODI with a groin problem.

His form with the bat has been scratchy, having made only two half-centuries from his past 28 international innings across the two white ball formats of the game.

In a recent interview Morgan admitted he was beginning to start feeling his age and struggling to recover physically after matches.

It is expected that Jos Buttler will step up as captain, having been vice captain since 2015 and has also led the team 13 times.

Another player who could come into the running is Moeen Ali, who has deputised in recent times.
