Adrian Lam targets immediate success for Leigh Centurions in 1895 Cup Final against Featherstone Rovers.

It’s a big day on Saturday for Adrian Lam who has only been in charge at Leigh Sports Village for a matter of months, but already has the chance to provide the Centurions with some silverware on the biggest of stages.

The final is to be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for one year only with the Sky Bet League Two play-off final being played at Wembley the same day.

But let that take nothing away from the historic occasion with both sides preparing for what is set to be a mouth-watering cup final tie with two in-form sides who are arguably too good for the division in which they are in.

Featherstone went close to promotion last year but unfortunately lost the ‘Million Pound game’ to French side Toulouse. Whereas Leigh spent last year in Super League but had what can only be described as a disastrous year and one that deservedly ended in relegation to the Betfred Championship.

But this year looks promising for both sides and they have both deservedly reached this stage of the competition as they prepare to face off on Saturday at midday.

Just a point separates the two sides in the Betfred Championship, but league standings will have no bearing on this encounter with it being whoever turns up more organised and prepared on the day likely to come away from the capital with some early silverware for the season.

Adrian Lam will be joined by his former side at Tottenham as Wigan Warriors are also in action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they face off against the Huddersfield Giants following on from the 1895 final.

As for the team news, both squads were revealed on Thursday. New signing Blake Ferguson was named in Lam’s Leigh squad after he recently joined from Parramatta Eels and scored four tries on his debut in a huge win over Workington.

As for Rovers, they have named new signing Johnathan Ford in their squad ahead of the trip to Tottenham.

The former Toulouse skipper was a key cog in the French side who went unbeaten in 2021 and will be a huge boost for Featherstone’s promotion hopes as well as their chances of winning silverware this weekend as he has followed former teammate Mark Khierallah who is also named in the squad.

With many neutrals tipping the game to be just as exciting as the main event, we may well be in for a cracker in North London as the two Championship heavyweights go head to head.
