Football fans ugly behaviour is down to society-surely the answer is to hit clubs with a points deduction

During the past couple of weeks, we have seen more and more pitch invasions around football grounds. It is a common fact that at the end of the season with so much at stake fans are going to become emotional and they want to let these emotions out, but now it is getting crazy and becoming a serious danger to players and managers alike.

We have had to witness so called fans harassing players, along with some even punching and attacking players and managers.

This has got to stop soon before somebody could get seriously hurt, or even die. I fully appreciate the desire and passion of most football fans but to some they are now going too far.

There are more pitch invasions than there used to be. This is more than likely that once one fan decides to invade the pitch others will copy and follow to celebrate thinking that there is little chance of mass banning orders being imposed if hundreds run on to the pitch.

Before when fans ran on to the field of play it was to show their emotions, but now some and it is only a minority seem to want to become violent to opposition players and managers.

Players, coaches and other fans should never be placed in danger as they are now. The answer is crystal clear, pitch invasions have to stop and stop right now.

It’s a shame, because sport is all about winning with emotions, but players, coaches and other fans should never be placed in danger as they are now.

The answer to the problem though isn’t quite so simple. It’s unrealistic to expect stewards on minimum wage to stand in the way. Many of these have received only cursory training.

The best possible scenario would be to hit clubs where it hurts them most. Deduction of points has to be the answer.

Some would argue that the clubs are doing as best as they can, and that is so true, but the problem isn’t going away.

By sides facing the risk of deduction of points I am sure this will filter through to the fans that if they misbehave, they will not only be hurting themselves but will be putting the club in danger of a points deduction which could have serious ramifications.

This is a problem about culture, the culture of football and the culture of society. Football has to put safety measures in place to protect everybody. If people can stop being idiots this problem will eventually go away.
