Champions Cup preview: Can Munster get revenge on last year’s champions Toulouse?

Reigning and defending champions Toulouse will travel to the Aviva Stadium and not the historic Thomond Park to face European Champions Cup royalty in Munster.

Both sides will be looking to be the first side to book a semi-final spot, when they get the first game of the weekend kicked off tomorrow at 15.00.

But unfortunately the game will not be played at Munster’s historic ground as it plays as a venue for an Ed Sheeran concert at the weekend.

The Irish province have won the most quarterfinals of any team in the competition with their tally of 14, including in their last five outings featuring two victories against Saturday’s opponents.

Munster’s captain Peter O’Mahoney has claimed 36 of his side’s lineouts so far this campaign, the most of any other player in the competition.

Both sides met at the round of 16 stage last season with the French side coming away from Saturday’s venue with a 33-40 victory, on their way to winning their fifth title.

Toulouse are on a run of four straight victories away from home against Irish opposition, but their fifth won’t come as easy, with Munster leading the stats in turnovers won with 48, and Toulouse coughed up possession more times than any other team in this year’s competition, losing possession to their opposition on 70 different occasions.

Toulouse scrum-half Antione Dupont has beaten 18 defenders whilst only making three appearances so far averaging six defenders beaten per game, which is the highest of any other player in the competition this season.

Will Toulouse end Munster’s European journey once again? Or will the men from Limerick get revenge on last year’s champions?
