Storm blown away by Team Bath in pursuit of fifth straight win

                          

Surrey Storm’s four match winning run came to an abrupt halt at the hands of Team Bath at a packed Surrey Sports Park on Friday evening. The hosts never recovered from a slow start and were second best to everything all night.

Earlier this season Storm picked up their first win in the VNSL when they travelled to Bath and came away with a 62-58 victory.

However, on Friday the honours went to the visitors who were excellent in every department.

Bath shot into a 4-0 lead as Storm took time to settle. The home side made a number of unforced errors which in their previous four games they haven’t done so. A well organised Bath defence stopped anything that Storm could throw at them, with the visitors taking a four goal lead into the buzzer.

In the second quarter, despite Storm scoring eleven goals, Bath steadily started building up a big lead to go into the break well in control of the game, leading by nine goals at 31-22.

During the second quarter Mikki Austin made her first change of the game by bringing on GA Emma Magee for Frankie Wells.

A third quarter dominated by Bath saw the visitors increase their advantage at one stage to the biggest margin of the game, twelve goals.

Bath, led by their excellent GS Kimberly Borger, kept hitting the mark and soon started pulling clear of Storm. The lead started growing to an extent that the game was well out of the reach of the Surrey side who kept plugging away.

By the time the final buzzer had sounded, Bath had won the game by 25 goals to take the game 66-41.

Borger top scored with 41 for the visitors, but it was the outstanding GK Phumza Maweni who was deservedly voted POM, with a fine all round contribution of eight turnovers and three interceptions.

By comparison, Storm’s shooter Proscovia Peace was kept quiet by her high standards and finished the night with just 25 goals.

Storm will look to bounce back in their next game on April 16^th when they face Loughborough Lightning.
