Wycombe Wanderers host MK Dons in play-off contender clash

It has been apparent since the early weeks of the season that Wycombe Wanderers harbour ambitions to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

However, those premonitions is likely to come under scrutiny this weekend, as fellow promotion contenders MK Dons test their credentials with a visit to Gareth Ainsworth’s men.

Despite a disappointing 3-2 loss to Morecambe last time out, Wycombe have lost two successive league games just once all campaign, so home fans should not be overly worried heading into the clash against the Dons.

The Chairboys have been without top goalscorer Sam Vokes for their last two matches, but finding the net has not been a problem. Ainsworth’s side have averaged two goals a game in their last five encounters and can comfortably score goals when needed.

However, in the reverse fixture back in September, Wycombe failed to score. Troy Parrott’s penalty in the 40th minute was enough for Liam Manning’s team to earn the three points at Stadium MK.

Surprise package MK Dons have been mightily impressive this season and their summer recruitment has played a huge role in their success.

Scott Twine has dazzled in recent games, most notably in Tuesday’s victory over Burton Albion, scoring a wonderful winner late on. Taking his goal involvement tally for the season to a remarkable 20 in the process.

A slip up against Doncaster last week doesn’t look to have hampered their promotion push. But with in-form Fleetwood, Sunderland and new-look Ipswich coming up, this period looks to be a vital one for the Dons.

Team News

Wycombe have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s game, with Dominic Gape the only long term absentee.

MK Dons look likely to field an unchanged team from Tuesday’s win against Burton, but new signing Connor Wickham is pushing for his first start following his arrival.
