An eye-catching opening set of National League fixtures kick-off 2022.

Eastleigh host Weymouth, Woking entertain Aldershot Town and, meanwhile, automatic promotion-chasing Bromley travel to Essex to face a struggling Southend United.

Eastleigh vs Weymouth

Ben Strevens’ Eastleigh side sit comfortably mid-table, eight points outside the play-off places with just one loss in their last six games in all competitions. However, with games in hand on those above them, the Spits play-off ambitions remain within reach.

The Spitfires have lost just two league games at the Silverlake this campaign while Sunday’s visitors have collected just six points from a possible 27 on the road.

Weymouth have lost their last five league games, but a narrow 1-0 victory against Hungerford in their last match meant they would progress to the last 16 of the FA Trophy.

Eastleigh come into this game unbeaten in their previous four meetings with the Terras, with their last defeat against them coming back in the 2005/06 National League South season.

Woking vs Aldershot Town

Four wins in 15 games in all competitions for Woking has seen them slip down the National League table following a decent start to the season.

The Cardinals’ Tahvon Campbell sits third in the division’s top goalscoring charts with 13 league goals moving into the second half of the season.

Aldershot head into this match following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Dagenham and Redbridge. They were enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run going into their clash with the Daggers, but Angelo Balanta’s first-half goal was enough to settle the contest.

Woking have not beaten Aldershot in their last eight league meetings. A 2-1 victory at the Kingfield Stadium back in the 2015/16 season was the last time they came out on top in league action with the Shots.

Southend vs Bromley

After relegation to the National League last season, Southend United have found it difficult to adjust to their new surroundings. The Shrimpers hover precariously over the relegation places going into the latter half of the campaign.

They will know their opponents well having played the reverse fixture just a week ago, on Boxing day. The spoils were shared, as quickfire second-half goals for each team saw the game finish one apiece.

The Seasiders have lost just one game in their last five outings and will feel they can pounce on a Bromley side that lost 1-0 to Maidenhead just two days after their encounter.

However, the Ravens still find themselves firmly in the play-off mix and just five points off top spot heading into this game. Southend are the league’s lowest scorers with 16 goals in 19 games so that will encourage Andy Woodman’s side traveling to Roots Hall.
