Poland look to build on their victory against Albania as they travel to face San Marino in the World Cup Qualifiers

Finishing in second place is a major aim for the White and Reds as they aim to qualify for their fourth successive major international tournament.

This time around, Paulo Sousa’s men face San Marino with a view to securing back-to-back victories for the first time since 2019.

Poland have failed to impress at the last two international tournaments and gaining qualification to the World Cup next year is vital.

Last time out, the White and Reds put on a clinical finishing display as they beat Albania 4-1 at the PGE Narodowy.

The hosts started from the front foot, and even though the Eagles disrupted Poland’s rhythm with a series of fouls, all-time record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net with a neat header in the 12th minute.

After conceding, Albania looked to be fueled with a new source of energy as waves of attacks paid off with a goal from Sokol Cikalleshi in the 25th minute.

This continued for the rest of the first half but Poland capitalised in the dying embers of the half through debutant Adam Buksa who regained the lead for the hosts.

Grzegorz Krychowiak made it 3-1 early in the second half as Lewandowski used his strength and willingness to get onto the ball and provide the crucial assist for the midfielder.

The game was done and dusted by that point but Karol Linetty added a fourth for Poland to fire in from close range and seal the three points for Sousa’s men.

Compared to Poland, San Marino have not won a game during the World Cup Qualifiers and have not scored a goal having conceded 12 in four games so far.

In their last outing against Andorra, they held their own but were beaten 2-0 by the hosts. Marc Vales scored a quickfire seven-minute brace to secure the three points for Koldo Álvarez’s men.

La Serenissima were only able to score one goal in the EURO 2020 Qualifiers and Poland will be hoping that they can get a positive result to boost the goal difference.

San Marino’s only aim will be to score and catch the Poles off guard defensively after their poor showing against Albania on that front.

The hosts have been able to get a goal in their last encounter against Poland back in September 2013, but have never secured a positive result with the White and Reds winning all eight games.
