Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity will be looking to gain some late-season form as the two clash this Sunday at the Magic Weekend.

Both of these sides picked up points on Bank Holiday Monday with a 40-28 win for Giants over Hull Kingston Rovers and a 20-13 win for Trinity over Leeds Rhinos.

Before Monday’s victory, Huddersfield had been on a three-game winless run and in that run recorded back-to-back 18-12 defeats against the Rhinos and Salford Red Devils.

Recently, positive news emerged out of the John Smith’s Stadium with back-rower Luke Yates penning a new three-year deal.

The Giants have enjoyed Magic Weekend with four wins and one draw from their last five matches at the event. Unlike their opponents, Trinity have only won twice recording three defeats which included a heavy defeat to fierce rivals Castleford Tigers.

Trinity have had an inconsistent run of form with two defeats and three wins in their last five games.

In that inconsistent run however they have picked up some impressive wins against Warrington Wolves and as mentioned, Monday’s win over Leeds Rhinos.

Similar to the Giants, Trinity have been boosted recently with centre Reece Lyne and loose forward Brad Walker signing new deals.

Team News

For Huddersfield, Jermaine McGillvary and Luke Yates miss out on the Magic Weekend clash with Lee Gaskell and Louis Senior taking their place in the 21-man squad.

Will Pryce, son of former rugby league player Leon Pryce, also makes the squad and will be hoping to continue his recent impressive performances for the Giants.

Tinira Arona and Harry Bowes miss out for Trinity whilst Chris Green and Josh Wood come into the 21-man squad to face Giants.

Head to Head

In recent fixtures between the two sides, it has been fairly even. In the last four meetings, both sides have won twice against the other.

The most recent fixture was won by Huddersfield Giants 22-18 thanks to tries from McGilvary, Senior, Sam Wood and Jake Wardle.

Trinity and Giants have met at Magic Weekend before with Giants winning that fixture 25-22 in 2018’s event at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.
