Will Boyle raring to go against Crewe Alexandra on the opening day

After winning promotion as League Two champions last season, Cheltenham Town prepare for just their second-ever season in League One.

Unfortunately, Will Boyle missed the end of last season through injury, but he is raring to go this weekend.

“I am good to go. I played a part in all of the pre-season games, I feel good in myself after the injury and I can’t wait to get back out on the field”.

The Robins are set to face Crewe Alexandra at The Mornflake Stadium on the opening weekend. Following a successful first season back in League One for The Alex, the 25-year-old admitted, if his side were able to replicate their form from last season, it would be a positive campaign.

“Crewe had a good season last year to establish themselves in the league, so if we could do what they did last season that would be a successful season for us”.

Boyle is a predominant factor in Cheltenhams’s defence. A defence that was well known for its discipline last season.

“We are very organised, honest and a hardworking group. That so far has brought us quite a bit of success since the manager has been here. We will continue to pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets and see where that takes us this season. I know it is a new league but nothing will change in our application”.

They will have to be at their best as they come up against a Crewe side who scored 22 goals during pre-season.

There will be a lot of pressure on the same group of players that achieved promotion last season with only three players joining the squad in the offseason.

“The group we have hasn’t really changed much, the lads that have come in have been a part in the work we have done previously, we have kept the continuity coming into the season”.

Results against Hereford, Walsall and Coventry City in the last two weeks gives Michael Duff’s side a lot of confidence, but they are well aware of the difficult challenge they will face at The Mornflake Stadium.

“Going to Crewe on the opening day is going to be a tough game, they are a well organised side who have attacking threats all over the pitch. We are well prepared going into the game, the entire squad are looking forward to the challenge!”.
