France meet Switzerland in UEFA Euro 2020’s Round of 16

France will face off against Switzerland as they look to land a place in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2020.

Didier Deschamps’ side managed to maneuver themselves out of the ‘Group of death’ from the top spot. This earned them a spot in the Round of 16 against a Swiss side who are coming into this game off the back of a 3-1 win over Turkey.

France booked their place with a 2-2 draw against Portugal. Karim Benzema netted a brace after Les Bleus went 1-0 down to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, who then equalised with another penalty late on for the Portuguese.

The Tricolore are on the ‘harder’ side of the draw and should they manage to defeat their Swiss counterparts, they will face off against either Croatia or Spain, both of which would be difficult games.

France will be expected to make a run for the final with their strength in depth, especially in the forward areas with the likes of Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann, and Kylian Mbappe.

As the group stages went on, France got more efficient in front of goal as they went from one shot on target against Germany, four against Hungary, and then five against Portugal.

This can only bode well for the French who will be hoping they can put a few goals past Switzerland to breed confidence into the side on their expected run to the final.

Team News

France have already used three different right-backs so far this tournament in Benjamin Pavard, Leo Dubois, and Jules Kounde and it will be expected that Pavard has recovered from his concussion to slot straight back into that position.

Benzema should keep his spot up front alongside Mbappe after his brace against Portugal. Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez are both injured so it will be a hard decision for Deschamps as to who he will play at left-back.
