The key dates for Blades fans’ diaries as Sheffield United learn their 2021/22 Championship fixtures

Sheffield United, alongside the other 71 EFL clubs, have learned their fixtures for the upcoming 2021/22 Championship campaign, as Slavisa Jokanovic’s side look to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

The Blades will host Lee Bowyer’s Birmingham City at Bramall Lane on the opening weekend of the season; a favourable way to kick things off on paper.

August is a tricky month as the South Yorkshire side head to South Wales to take on last season’s playoff runners up Swansea City before travelling to fellow relegated outfit, and likely promotion rival, West Brom.

There’s no league Steel City Derby this term with Sheffield Wednesday relegated to League One, but there will be two South Yorkshire Derbies against Barnsley, with a trip to Oakwell on 23 October and the home game scheduled for 19 March.

The festive period is mixed with trips to Cardiff City and the third side to drop out of the Premier League last term in Fulham in December, before travelling to Preston North End on Boxing Day and hosting Hull City to wrap up 2021. The Blades are also at home on New Year’s Day as they host Middlesbrough in their 2022 opener.

Jokanovic’s side will also be tested towards the end of the season as they approach the run-in, with games against Stoke City, Bournemouth, Cardiff City and a final day clash at home to Fulham to come during the final month of the season.

An instant return to the Premier League will be the aim, whether that be through automatic promotion or the playoffs, but it is certainly set to be a mouthwatering campaign in the second tier.
