21-year-old Nathan Bishop joins the Stags from the Red Devils’ youth setup on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign.

Starting his career at Southend, the goalkeeper made his first senior appearance for the Shrimpers during the 2017/18 season.

He went onto make a further 21 appearances in 2018/19 and 17 appearances in 2019/20 before landing a move to Manchester United in January 2020.

Bishop has gone onto make appearances in Premier League 2 and has been able to learn off of some of the best goalkeepers in world football.

Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough spoke about the signing of the England under-20 international and the maturity he brings into the squad at such a young age.

“Nathan is a promising young goalkeeper with good experience in League One with Southend. For a young goalkeeper, to get those 30 games in League One was great for him.

“He showed a degree of maturity in that time, which will have hopefully improved further in the past 12 months.

“Although he hasn’t played too much in the past year, he has trained with Manchester United’s first team every day, which is the next best thing to playing matches.

“You cannot fail to improve in that environment with United’s coaches and playing staff. He is the best we can get in this position.”

The youngster will remain in Manchester for pre-season and will join up with the amber and blues at an agreed time ahead of the 2021/22 League Two season.
