The versatile asset can play in defence as well as in midfield, can carry the ball well to start counter-attacks and is an aerial threat in both boxes.
Wilmot started his playing career at his hometown side, Stevenage. After a successful breakthrough season, he signed the dotted line and joined Watford in 2018. Since then, he has had loan spells away from Vicarage Road at Udinese and Swansea City.
In the winter of 2019, Wilmot signed for Serie A side Udinese on loan, but only made five appearances for the Italian outfit.
That following summer, the then 19-year-old arrived in Swansea for the season. He made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with one being the deciding goal in the South Wales Derby in October 2019.
Following Watford’s relegation from the top flight in 2020, Wilmot only made 15 starts and 27 appearances in total over the duration of the previous campaign as the Hornets clinched promotion at the first attempt.
The England youth international arrived signing a four-year-deal in ST4 as Stoke boss Michael O’Neill continues to shape his squad:
“Ben is a young player of enormous potential who already has great experience of Championship football.”
“I know he was attracting interest from a number of other clubs and we are really pleased to have made him our first signing of the summer. I’ve no doubts he will be an excellent addition to our squad.”
