The son of Frank Sinclair has been waiting in the wings for his chance in the first-team and he was able to make his breakthrough this season.

Despite being only 20, Tyrese Sinclair has coped fantastically with the step up to senior football and has shown that the Nottinghamshire club produces talented players.

Sinclair made his first appearance of the season against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup. The forward came on for 30 minutes as the amber and blues were smashed 4-0 at Deepdale.

He was then earned the chance to play back-to-back games as then Mansfield Town manager Graham Coughlan started him against Manchester City’s under 21’s in the Papa John’s Trophy, but the Stags were beaten 3-0 by the young Citizens.

The 20-year-old featured two more times in the competition playing a total of 145 minutes. Mansfield Town were only able to get one win but the victory against Scunthorpe United saw Sinclair get his first senior assist.

Stags’ number 27 spent most of the first half of the season on the bench or occasionally making an odd appearance here and there off the bench.

Up to matchday 34, the forward played under 90 minutes of first-team football and it was the rotation of Nigel Clough that gave him the breakthrough into the squad.

Against Tranmere Rovers away and Leyton Orient at home, he came on as a substitute, but his chance came at St James Park.

He started alongside Jordan Bowery and performed exceptionally as he looked comfortable upfront. He missed out on a goal to cap his performance but was voted as Man of the Match for that game.

A full 90 minutes in the tank in the next match against Newport County saw him get on the scoresheet scoring his first goal for the club.

In the next two home games against Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic, he was able to score to take his tally up to three goals for the season.

Sinclair alongside Jason Law have been a breath of fresh air when they have been utilised as starters or even as substitutes.

These youngsters will learn as they gain more experience in the EFL but with 22 appearances in all competitions this season, Sinclair is on track to becoming a fine forward.
