Harlequins beat the Worcester Warriors as the Quins kept their play-off hunt alive

Harlequins moved back into the top four of the Premiership after an eight-try demolition of Worcester Warriors at the Stoop.

Quins went into the break holding a 31-14 lead, three further tries increased the advantage before Warriors scored two late consolation tries within two minutes.

The game certainly lived up to its billing of a try fest on offer. Harlequins opened the scoring following an attacking line out when Danny Care touched down.

Warriors responded after Care’s early score when Niall Annett scored a try with Billy Searle adding the extra points after his conversion.

Harlequins then hit back when Marcus Smith touched down under the posts, with the successful conversion the hosts led 12-7, only for Worcester to counter-attack when Joe Batley powered over. The conversion was successful to give the Warriors a narrow lead at 14-12.

That was to be the last points Worcester scored until the final two minutes as Quins took total control of the game.

A high kick was brilliantly taken by Mike Brown who set up Care to feed the excellent Andre Esterhuizen who dotted down.

The try bonus point was bought up in the 31st minute following a line out, Wilco Louw crashed over.

With virtually the last kick of the half Harlequins went over for their fifth try of the half when Will Evans barged over to give Quins a comprehensive 31-14 lead at the interval.

The start of the second half saw Harlequins continue to power forward at every opportunity. An incredible break from Joe Marchant with a surge down the middle almost amounted to a brilliant solo pass, but the centre unselfishly sent a pass over to Cadan Murley which was just too long.

Evans added to his haul of the evening when he crossed following a driving maul. Great hands saw Harlequins run in their seventh try of the game with Alex Dombrandt setting up Tyron Green to dot down.

A turnover count of 7-2 to Harlequins, mostly down to Evans was reaping big rewards when Luke Northmore ran in to bring up the 50-point mark.

There was still time for Worcester to gain scant consolation of two tries at the end of the game as Quins switched off.

Richard Palframan touched down with the last word falling to Alex Hearle to bring up the try bonus point for the visitors, who were soundly beaten on the day.
