Sheffield Wednesday stare down the barrel towards relegation as they host a Bristol City side winless in eight matches

Sheffield Wednesday look all but confirmed to be relegated to League One for next season, as they sit nine points adrift from safety with only five games left to play.

Since their resounding win against Cardiff City at the start of April, Wednesday were given a reality check after consecutive losses to both Swansea and QPR.

These losses have all but confirmed relegation for Darren Moore’s side who will have to pull off a miracle if they want to escape the drop.

Sadly for the Owls, if they hope to avoid relegation this season they will have to do it without their manager. With Moore likely to be away from the touchline for the rest of the season due to health issues, Wednesday will have even more motivation to try and prevent relegation as they play not only for their survival but for their manager as well.

For Bristol City, however, the game on Saturday is almost meaningless. Thanks to a strong start to their season, the Robins have all but confirmed safety in the Championship with plenty of games left to play and are placed 15th with five left to play.

Despite not needing a win, Bristol City will certainly be desperate to chalk three points on the board having not won in five games.

The visitors have only scored one goal in their last five games, leaving fans craving some sort of goalmouth action before the season is up.

Nigel Pearson spoke earlier in the week about his side’s recent performances and the importance of the game for Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend:

‘”We need a better performance, absolutely. It’ll be a tough game but they all are at this stage in the season.

“He [Moore] will expect nothing less than total commitment from his players. It’s going to be tough for them to avoid relegation now. It’s been a hard season for them in many ways, changing the manager four times if you include the stand-in. Three permanents and one temporary managerial slot.”
