Derby day in the Manor as the basement Bees tackle North West London rivals Wealdstone

Occupying themselves as two of the three bottom clubs in the Vanarama National League, Wealdstone FC and Barnet FC find themselves wishing upon shooting stars, as relegation eludes them for the 20-21 season.

Nevertheless, Both sides look for a first win in five matches.

The two clubs met first back in October 1946 and was the first ever football match televised in the United Kingdom was shown on the BBC.

Opposing fortunes have been bestowed on the North London neighbours separated by eight miles since then. The Stones were made homeless for 17 years and dropped five leagues, while Barnet inherited a new stadium and made it into the Football League.

But much has changed in recent times, Wealdstone F.C are on the rise at Grosvenor Vale, whilst Barnet F.C look like they’re plummeting..

Barnet with no wins in the last ten away matches, whilst conceding 35 goals and collecting a measly five points from 12 away games, look ominous for the away side.

Gary Anderson, Head of performance and interim manager, gave a damning review after the game vs Yeovil when he said, “We’re not working hard enough when we’re not in possession’.

This tells me a lot about the team who have collected 13 points all season, the sting has well and truly been taking from the Bees.

One point in the last five games for Wealdstone against teams close to them in the table will bring concerns for management as they need performances to turn into wins.

Wealdstone – Ryan Gondoh the new signing from National League South side Hampton and Richmond, with blistering pace and an eye for goal, which saw him net in his third game for the Stones.

Barnet – Ephron Mason-Clark the youth team player who has established himself as regular starter, is dangerous, fleet footed and direct who is technically sound with both feet.

Style of play

Wealdstone – Attack minded total football, with their wingbacks raiding down both wings and midfielders who study the art of ball manipulation. 4-3-3 which can also turn into a 3-5-2, as the team has players who can fill various positions.

Barnet – Another direct team who likes to attack, with three forwards or a lone striker in a 4-5-1 but they can also shape up in an old school 4-4-2. Somewhat lightweight at the back, with their defence easily penetrated due to a lack of pace at the back.
