Blackpool will want to cement their playoff place against Plymouth at Bloomfield Road on Saturday

Blackpool finally stepped into the playoff places after an impressive midweek victory over Peterborough and will want to maintain that consistency against Plymouth on Saturday.

Neil Critchley’s side are still unbeaten since October at Bloomfield Road and that season-best performance against Darren Ferguson’s Posh will only add to the confidence through the squad.

Top scorer Jerry Yates is a doubt for the fixture having picked up a dead leg in midweek, but Critchley is still positive that he will be able to call on his leading number nine for the game.

Also, Elliot Embleton, who has impressed since coming into the side following his January loan move from Sunderland, is expected to be fit following a bout of cramp in midweek.

For the visitors, Luke Jephcott is to be named in the squad, despite starting for Wales U21’s on Friday, with two games in two days evidently not a concern to the man who has scored 18 goals this campaign.

Having said that, he is on a goal drought as of late with Niall Ennis having to pick up the pieces to keep the goals coming for Ryan Lowe’s side.

Ennis was at the double in Argyle’s most recent outing in a 2-0 home win over Bristol Rovers but before that Plymouth went on a run of five defeats in a row, leaving them well out of the playoff picture and destined for a midtable finish this campaign.

They will want to end strongly however and ensure that positive momentum is in place for the next season, after an impressive start to life for their return to League One under Lowe.

Blackpool will be in no mood to let things slip though and Neil Critchley has emphasised the importance of momentum and that nothing is secured yet in their pursuit of a Championship promotion.

Despite a number of key injuries to the likes of Gary Madine, CJ Hamilton and Marvin Ekpiteta, as well as missing Dan Ballard as he is on international duty, the Seasiders have continued their rise up the table as their games in hand continue to tally up.

Ollie Turton and Jordan Thorniley put in a fine performance as a makeshift centre half pairing in midweek and they will be expected to continue in the same vain given the lack of substitute options in that regard.

Whilst Blackpool boast a fine number of midfield options with the likes of Kenny Dougall and Grant Ward on top form on a consistent basis for a number of months, Conor Grant for Argyle will pose similar problems for the Seasiders.

With nine assists this campaign, his ability speaks for itself and if Plymouth are to cause any threat to Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, there is no doubt that Grant will be fundamental in that happening.

Yet, of recent times, the two trajectories both clubs are on has shifted significantly and the run of form alongside the momentum that is being built points to Blackpool comfortably leaving this fixture with all three points.
