Todd Cantwell stands out in Norwich’s hard-fought win at Hillsborough

Despite going a goal down inside ten minutes, Daniel Farke’s side persevered as they came from behind to elongate their winning run whilst extending their lead at the top of the table at the same time.

Goals from Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell in the second half helped the Canaries to an all important three points at Hillsborough, however, it could’ve been so much more for the Norfolk outfit.

The stand-out player this afternoon was the 23-year-old, scoring a tidy goal to help his side to victory, Cantwell shined for Norwich City.

Ever since the departure of James Maddison at Carrow Road, creative flair was missing from this Norwich side but the hunt for this missing key in Farke’s system is unlocked in Cantwell. The youngster played an impressive 88 minutes before being replaced by Jacob Sorenson having taken a knock.

His 77th minute strike proved to be enough as the Canaries re-established their lead back to ten points, Cantwell managed to evade a tackle from a Wednesday defender before getting the ball out of his feet and slotting his side ahead.

After being hounded with tackles all game, the 23-year-old earned his fine reward.

Despite their woeful first half, Norwich’s class ultimately swamped the relegation threatened Owls who did look really good prior to the break. Positives along the lines for Darren Moore’s Wednesday who sit seven points from safety, however, a further dent in confidence at Hillsborough.

Finnish international Pukki secured the man of the match reward after scoring a goal from his only shot on target, further adding to his tally after bagging his 50th goal in just 75 Championship appearances.

Sheffield Wednesday took the lead via Jordan Rhodes, who capitalized on the Canaries failure to clear their lines. Moore’s men had multiple chances to extend their lead, but it just wasn’t to be as the Yellows rode out a dodgy first half.

Heartbreak for the Owls as relegation looms after a seventh straight defeat In the league, Rotherham United who sit above Wednesday have four games in hand as fears also appear in the West Midlands for Birmingham City. For the neutral, we’re in for an exciting end of the season in the battle to avoid relegation.

Moore’s side go again midweek as they host Huddersfield Town, perhaps another chance for the Owls to bounce back in order to muster a slight chance of survival as ten games remain of the league campaign.

Meanwhile for Norwich City, they travel to the East Midlands as they take on Nottingham Forest. A win for the Canaries will confirm their spot in this season Play-Offs, but Farke will have his eyes set on the trophy as a return to the top-flight awaits.
