Al Sadd crowned Qatar Stars League winners

Al Sadd were crowned Qatar Stars League champions after a 3-0 win over Umm Salal.

The title proves an amazing moment for Xavi Hernandez, who hung up his boots in 2019, finishing his career with Al Sadd before beginning his career as a coach at the club.

In September, Xavi and his side suffered a shocking loss in the last 16 tie of the AFC Champions League against Iran side Persepolis FC, in which Xavi addressed the supporters and assured that they will be back stronger.

In less than two years with the club, the former Spanish international has claimed his sixth title, having won three in his first year (Super Cup, Stars Cup and Qatari Stars Cup). Xavi pushed on further from his first year to go on and win the Qatar Cup, retain the trophy in February and lift Emir Cup in December.

To make the occasion even more special, the hosts sealed the title against their rivals. Algerian star Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring when netting his 20th goal of the season, before Yousuf Abdurisag and Rodrigo Tabata sealed the win in the second half to clinch a memorable victory.

However, the Qatar giants are not finished and hope to seal the quadruple in the Emir Cup. Their semi-final against Al Arabi and the upcoming Asian Championship, a competition which Al Sadd have not won in the last ten years, present an opportunity for their Spanish coach to lift further silverware.

The former Barcelona midfielder has transformed the Wolves into a machine by playing brilliant football and winning titles. With seven wins in a row in the Championship, Al Sadd remain the only unbeaten team this season which has included 16 wins and two draws.

The Wolves have scored 84 goals in all competitions and maintained a strong backline conceding only 14 goals the whole season.

The Barcelona legend may have one eye on a return to the club in the future, but for now the 41-year-old is growing his potential in the UAE as Al Sadd continue their dominance.
