The White Ferns struggled throughout their innings, with Katey Martin (36) the only player to make a notable score as they were dismissed for just 96 in the final over.
Four bowlers took two wickets with the ball as the tourists limited the hosts to a well below par score.
England raced to a fast start, reaching 59 before losing a wicket, however they did lose three wickets in just over two overs to cause a few problems but Sciver (26*) and Amy Jones (12*) guided the tourists to a seven wicket victory.
The second match of the series is on Friday and will be combined in a double header with New Zealand’s men’s fixture against Australia.
