Burton Albion look to escape the relegation zone as they host Bristol Rovers

Burton will host fellow relegation contenders Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, in a huge six-pointer that could completely change the complexity of each of the sides’ season respectively.

There are only five points separating the relative safety of Swindon in 18th place and basement dwellers Northampton, with the Brewers and the Pirates sitting in the middle of the battle to avoid the drop.

A win for Burton would propel Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side above Rovers and out of the relegation places, still with a game in hand over their opponents on Tuesday night.

Although the Staffordshire-based side would be the expected underdogs in this game. They are flying high with four wins in their last five in the league and looking like a side that are full of confidence.

The last five meetings between the two sides have seen two Burton wins and three draws, the latest of which came in October.

During the reverse fixture, both sides fought with real tenacity in a tight affair where Burton top goalscorer Kane Hemmings salvaged a point late on with a close-range finish.

Hemmings has only just returned from his second injury of the season, as the club’s top marksman featured off the bench to open the scoring for Burton at the weekend, with the striker returning to action as if he never left during his sides comfortable 2-0 win against ten-man Rochdale.

The forward was quickest to react from a long throw and stabbed home for his ninth goal of the season, proving he still has the sharp touch he has shown so much of this season.

Bristol Rovers have been struggling to find the net as of late and will look to improve on a poor goalscoring record at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Pirates have only managed to score eight goals in their last ten games, as they failed to score in half of those matches. Their poor record in front of goal has reflected on Bristol Rovers’ goal difference, with the visitors having the second-worst goalscoring record in the league.
