England women win big in first ODI against New Zealand

England women secured a comfortable victory over New Zealand overnight in first 50 over match for over a year in Christchurch.

The hosts were bowled out just 178 with well over four overs remaining with the returning Tash Farrant picking up 2-31 on her return to international cricket with seven different bowlers taking wickets for the tourists, the first time this has happened in the women’s game.

Skipper Heather Knight 67* and Tammy Beaumont 72 led England to a straight forward victory with well over 16 overs remaining and make the perfect start to the series.

The second match of the three-game series gets underway Dunedin on Thurssday as England look to secure the series ahead of the T20’s which the two teams are set to face off in.
