Who will replace Keith Curle at Northampton Town?

Keith Curle was sacked last week by Northampton Town after over two years at the helm of the club.

Curle secured promotion to League One through the Play-Offs last season but after a big overhaul of player change in the summer, results have been poor and leaves Northampton in the bottom four.

Academy manager Jon Brady was appointed temporary charge and has since taken charge of two games with a 2-0 defeat against rock-bottom Burton and a convincing 0-0 draw to out of form Ipswich.

The Australian is supported by Cobblers legends Marc Richards and Ian Sampson and are the favourites to take the current vacancy at Northampton.

The 46-year-old has produced good performances so far in his temporary role despite the results. He has also completely changed the play style from Curle’s hoof ball and is encouraging his players to become a passing team and despite losing to Burton, the Cobblers were the better side but individual errors cost them.

The draw at Ipswich was very similar with the side unable to make their domination count.

One current problem that Brady’s men are facing this season is the number of goals scored. They rank bottom for goals scored and have been unable to find the back of the net in their last six games.

The ex-Cambridge United winger has tried to change the sides mentality and the 0-0 draw against Ipswich is a good step in the right direction.

Despite a promising start, chairman Kelvin Thomas may look elsewhere with other managers being linked to the job. Michael Duff, Kevin Wilkin, Matt Gray and Danny Cowley are four of many managers being linked to the vacancy at Northampton but Jon Brady is the main candidate to take the job full-time.

Matt Gray is reportedly set to be in the mix to become the new Northampton Town manager. The 39-year-old is currently in charge of National League side Sutton United who sit second in the league and are closing in on league leaders Torquay United.

Gray has been praised for his style of football and is potentially the next best young manager to come through and Kelvin Thomas may make this gamble.

Since Chris Wilder left Northampton after his promotion with the side in the 2015/16 season, there have been five managers in the space of five years with all five being sacked so potentially chairman Thomas may look for a long-term manager rather than a short-term.

Nevertheless, caretaker manager Brady is set to take charge of Saturday’s game away from home against MK Dons. He will hope to steer the ship at Northampton and to get them out of the bottom four and keep them up in League One but this will be a big ask and only time will tell if Brady is the right man for the job.
