Rock bottom Burton Albion travel to managerless Northampton Town

Northampton Town host bottom place Burton Albion in what is a crucial game for both sides. The Cobblers will be with temporary manager Jon Brady after sacking Keith Curle in mid-week, ending his 28-month spell in charge of the club.

Curle was sacked Wednesday afternoon following a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night. The former Manchester City defender steered the ship when he arrived at Northampton by keeping them up in League Two. Curle then assembled a squad who gained promotion to League One last season through the playoffs.

Current U18 manager Jon Brady will be in temporary charge for tomorrow’s game. Brady will be assisted by Ian Sampson and Marc Richards who are considered icons at Northampton and will look to get off to a good start.

Burton currently sit five points below the Cobblers however the form is improving for the Brewers. Last time out they won 1-0 against promotion hopefuls Hull City. Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has made big changes since his arrival and will look to get revenge on his former side Northampton.

Hasselbaink spent seven months at Sixfields but was sacked with five games remaining as Northampton were relegated to the fourth tier in 2017/18.

The two sides met earlier this year under ex-manager Jake Buxton where Northampton run out 3-1 winners through goals from Chris Lines and Harry Smith, players who are no longer at the club. Burton’s squad has also evolved since this fixture and with new management overlooking also.

Both Northampton and Burton will look for the three points in hopes of survival this season in Sky Bet League One. The Cobblers will be hopeful that the temporary managers in charge will help them move out the bottom four, meanwhile a win for the Brewers will help them close the gap in the bottom four.
